STATE MUSEUM FUNDING
The State Museum in Harrisburg will complete the catalogue of its 38,000-object Community and Domestic Life collections thanks to a grant. The funding helps the museum increase public awareness of and access to the nationally significant collection and enhance exhibits and research. The $148,500 grant was awarded by the I-M-L-S “Museums for America” program. According to WTAJ, The museum will also match the grant with more than 600-thousand dollars in non-federal funds over the two-year grant period.
STATE COLLEGE ASSAULT TIPS
State College police are reminding residents and students to use caution and follow these safety tips to avoid becoming a victim of physical or sexual assault:
- Avoid traveling alone
- Park in well lighted areas
- Avoid isolated areas
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Keep your hands free.
Over the weekend, four assault cases were reported in the borough. It was the first weekend after classes resumed at Penn State.
CORBETT WANTS FUNDING TO PREVENT VIOLENCE
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett hopes increased state funding will help fight domestic violence and sexual assault. Yesterday, Corbett previewed his 2014-15 budget proposal in Harrisburg. Included is the request for $2.2 million funding increase for critical programs fighting against violence and supporting those affected. According to a release, the proposal increase of 10 percent would provide historic levels of state funding to domestic violence and rape crisis services.
