WINTER WEATHER TOTALS
The chances of a major weekend snow storm are dwindling. Still, yesterday’s storm left quite a mess behind. Between 4-6 inches of snow and sleet fell across the area, closing most area schools and even delaying the opening of Penn State’s University Park campus. Cold temperatures over the next two days will cause treacherous travel with slush and water freezing on area roads.
PENN STATE SIGNING DAY
Yesterday’s Signing Day celebration certainly confirmed the start of a new era of Penn State football. Head Coach James Franklin welcomed 25 signees to the program, including 5 student-athletes already enrolled on campus. The festive atmosphere for the mid-February event was the first of its kind for Penn State fans. Now, head coach James Franklin says the players must be ready to battle. The day’s events concluded with a high-energy public introduction to this year’s recruiting class in the Bryce Jordan Center. Former standouts LaVar Arrington and Michael Mauti, current players and coaches helped welcome the newest Nittany Lions.
PATERNO FAMILY LAWSUIT
Lawyers for the Paterno family are hoping to amend their lawsuit against the NCAA. According to the Centre Daily Times, the addendum claims NCAA sanctions hurt job prospects for former coaches Jay Paterno and Bill Kenney and adds Penn State as a nominal defendant in the break of contract claim. Penn State opposes the university’s addition to the suit. The amendment was filed in court yesterday.
STATE COLLEGE POLICE INVESTIGATION
State College police are investigating two alleged assaults. According to Statecollege.com, police did not provide many details into a potential sexual assault reported Tuesday. Police only say the reported assault occurred in January. Another assault was reported early Wednesday at 4:15 a.m. According to police, a man suffered facial injuries after a fight in the 700 block of University Drive. The victim was initially treated at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
