PENN STATE FRATERNITY PENALTY

Penn State’s Delta Upsilon fraternity is still awaiting trial on charges of furnishing alcohol to minors and other alcohol related offenses. According to the Centre Daily Times, the charges stem from an August party in which a female student reported sexual assault. However, the university’s Interfraternity Council levied a fine and other penalties over the weekend. The fraternity is also prohibited from hosting parties. Trouble forced the fraternity to shut its doors in 2009 before reopening a year later.

STATE COLLEGE DELTA PROGRAM

Enrollment in the State College Area School District’s Delta Program continues to rise with recent expansion. According to the Centre Daily Times, opportunities for fifth and sixth-grade students is capped at 80 enrollees, with 60 slots already occupied. The district opted to open the program to middle-level students earlier this year. Officials say future further expansion is possible.

FOUR INJURED IN THREE-CAR PILEUP

Four people were treated for minor injuries after a late afternoon three-car wreck Monday at the entrance to the Wal-Mart Plaza on Benner Pike. According to police, three cars collided around 6 pm. In total, five people were involved in the accident with one opting out of medical treatment. Two of three vehicles were seriously damaged. The accident created a short detour for travelers until debris was cleared.

STATE COLLEGE ROADWORK

Old Boalsburg Road between Ellen Avenue and South Atherton Street in State College will be closed today between 7:30 am and 5 pm. Crews are repairing a sewer line in the 1200 block of Old Boalsburg Road. Any questions should be directed to the Public Works Department at 234-7135.
