STATE COLLEGE ROADWORK
Roadwork continues this week in the 200 block of South Buckhout Street in State College. While delays aren’t expected, folks walking and driving through the area should use caution with concrete curb and sidewalk repairs. Work is scheduled through Friday between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm. West Whitehall Road in State College between University Drive and South Allen Street will be closed today between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. Crews are installing a water line from Oakhurst Lane to University Drive. Rock discovered during excavation for piping delayed the project. Local residents will have access from either South Allen Street or University Drive.
PATERNO FAMILY SUIT
The Paterno family is asking a judge to force the NCAA and other plaintiffs to produce documents as part of a lawsuit against the organization. According to Statecollege.com, the family claims the NCAA has not handed over documents requested in earlier court filings. Family attorney Scott Paterno filed papers Monday in Centre County court hoping to spur action. A hearing was scheduled last week for arguments relating to the Paterno’s desire to issue a subpoena to the NCAA and Penn State to acquire documents.
FIRE DISPLACES TWO
Cleanup continues after an apartment fire yesterday in Boggs Township displaced at least two residents. According to the Centre Daily Times, no one was injured when a fire ignited just after 12:30 in a second-story apartment at 320 Kifer Road. In total, eight apartments make up the building. Information on damage and other specifics was not available. Tenants from neighboring apartments reported the blaze.
FARMERS GET AID
Beginning today, farmers can sign-up for federal disaster assistance programs from the USDA. Farm Service Agency Administrator Juan M. Garcia says the programs are significantly stronger thanks to the 2014 Farm Bill. Pennsylvania officials are urging all producers impacted by heavy snow and extreme temperatures from October 2011 forward to contact their local FSA office to schedule an appointment to update their farm information and to submit loss information.
