The Boalsburg Fire Company’s Memorial Day weekend carnival kicks off tonight at 6 on fire company grounds. Food, rides, bingo and a parade highlight the event. The parade is scheduled for Saturday at 5 pm and is rain or shine. According to Statecollege.com, an unlimited ride wristband will be available for visitors for $13. Carnival hours are 6-10 pm Thursday – Saturday, 2-6 pm Sunday and 10 am – 6 pm on Monday.


Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett will not appeal a federal judge’s ruling that deemed the state’s ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. According to the Associated Press, 23 PA residents challenged the law, which was passed by legislature in 1996. Corbett released a statement yesterday, maintaining his belief in marriage between a man and a woman. However, the governor is opting against an appeal due to its unlikely success in high courts.


Delays are possible northbound on University Drive near Jeffrey Field and Park Avenue over the next month due to roadwork on the Penn State campus. A temporary lane closure has eliminated the turning lane at Park Avenue. Crews are widening the east side of the road and building new sidewalks to handle stadium parking lot expansion. Additionally, Beaver Stadium scoreboard installation forced the crews to close Curtain Road between the stadium and Porter Road. Curtain Road is closed from Burrowes Street to the Forum Building in the heart of campus. 


Former Rockview inmate Omar Best will be sentenced on August 7th after his conviction on charges of rape and aggravated assault of a prison worker. According to the Centre Daily Times, the date could be shifted. Previous charges against Best could impact his sentencing. Best is already in state custody on prior robbery, assault and rape convictions.
