STATE COLLEGE FLOODING

Heavy rain yesterday afternoon caused flooding throughout the State College area. More than one inch of rain fell in about 15 minutes, halting traffic on North Atherton Street near the bus station and on College Avenue. Several cars stalled in flood waters. Also, Linden Hall Road at Boalsburg Road in Oak Hall was closed due to a rock slide. A flood advisory was issued until early yesterday evening.

STATE COLLEGE ATM THEFT

State College police are searching for a man who allegedly took advantage of an elderly woman who left her ATM card in the machine after completing a transaction. According to Statecollege.com, after the woman left the machine a customer used her card to withdraw $100. Police say the incident happened on June 13th at First National Bank in the 1400 block of East College Avenue. Anyone with information should contact police at 814-234-7150.

STATE COLLEGE ROAD WORK

South Allen Street between Beaver Avenue and Calder Way in downtown State College will be limited to one lane today between 7 am and 6 pm. All businesses will be open and sidewalks will be accessible. Contractors are repairing damage in the area from a recent water main break.

WOMAN SETS SELF ON FIRE

A woman set herself on fire yesterday outside the Lehigh Valley Mall near Allentown, PA yesterday in an apparent suicide attempt. According to police, the woman was in a car near an HH Gregg store around 2:30 pm, got out and doused herself in gasoline before setting herself on fire. A mall security guard and several people nearby helped extinguish the fire. She survived, but suffered critical burns

911 DIRECTOR RETIRES

Centre County Emergency Communications Director Danile Tancibok officially retired yesterday after spending the last 18 years of his 36-year career as head of the 911 Telecommunications Center. According to Statecollege.com, Tancibok led the $18 million overhaul of the county’s 911 system over the past year. He was honored Tuesday at the Centre County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday.
