MOTORCYCLE PASSANGER KILLED

A FATAL MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN THE DEATH OF 54 YEAR OLD ERIE RESIDENT BEVERLY FRICK. FRICK, ALONG WITH HER HUSBAND MARK FRICK, WERE DRIVING ON JOHNSTOWN ROAD IN FREEDOM TOWNSHIP SATURDAY NIGHT WHEN MARK DROVE THE COUPLE’S MOTORCYCLE INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE AND COLLIDED WITH AN SUV. BEVERLY WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE WHILE MARK REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION. LOCAL POLICE ARE CONTINUING THEIR INVESTIGATION OF THE INCIDENT. 

INCLINED PLANE MALFUNCTION

SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE STUCK ON THE INCLINED PLANE IN JOHNSTOWN SATURDAY AFTEROON AFTER THE PLANE LOST POWER. THE JOHNSTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT, ALONG WITH WEST HILLS, MANAGED TO SAFELY REMOVE THE PASSANGERS FROM THEIR INCLINE CAR WITH THE USE OF A LADDER. THE CAR HAD STOPPED ABOUT FOUR FEET FROM THE TOP FOLLOWING THE POWER OUTAGE. LOCAL OFFICIALS TOLD 6 NEWS THAT THEY BELIEVE IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION THAT CAUSED THE POWER OUTAGE. NONE OF THE PASSANGERS STUCK ON THE INCLINE CAR WERE REPORTED INJURED. 

LAKEMONT SHOOTING

A SHOOTING OCCURED IN LAKEMONT AFTER 63 YEAR OLD JEFFEREY BOWERS SHOT HIS SON, 31 YEAR OLD RICHARD BOWERS, IN HIS ANKLE. THE SHOOTING HAPPENED JUST DOWN THE ROAD FROM PEOPLE’S NATURAL GAS FIELD AT 729 SHAND AVENUE AROUND 5:30 PM. LOCAL AUTHORIES SAY AN INTOXICATED JEFFEREY SHOT HIS SON THROUGH A BEDROOM DOOR AFTER RICHARD WOULDN’T ALLOW HIS FATHER TO LEAVE. THE ELDER BOWERS IS FACING CHARGES OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND TERRORISTIC THREATS. RICHARD WAS TAKEN TO UPMC ALTOONA AFTER SUSTAINING NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. 

BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT

ALTOONA POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR A SUSPECT WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH AN ARMED ROBBERY AT CITIZENS BANK ON BROAD AVENUE. LOCAL AUTHORITIES STATED THAT A MAN WALKED INTO THE BANK AROUND 11:00 AM SATURDAY DEMANDING MONEY WHILE TELLING THE BANK TELLER THAT HE WAS CARRYING A GUN. THE SUSPECT FLED THE SCENE SHORTLY THEREAFTER, HEADIND DOWN BROAD AVENUE. POLICE DISCOVERED AN EXPLODED DYE PACK OUTSIDE THE BANK AND BELIEVE THAT THE SUSPECT’S SKIN, ALONG WITH THE STOLEN MONEY, MAY HAVE BEEN STAINED WITH RED DYE.  

SNOW SHOE RESIDENT ARRESTED

25 YEAR OLD THEODORE SHAY OF SNOW SHOE IS BEING HELD IN CENTRE COUNTY PRISON AFTER ALLEGEDLY FIRING A .357-CALIBER REVOLVER INTO THE FLOOR OF HIS BEDROOM WHERE HIS WIFE WAS LAYING IN BED. A DRUNKEN ARGUMENT BETWEEN THE COUPLE ESCALATED AROUND 5:45 AM SATURDAY WHEN SHAY FIRED HIS WEAPON AND FLED THE HOME SOON AFTER. SHAY WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODAY SHORTLY THEREAFTER AND FACES A FELONY WEAPONS CHARGE IN ADDITION TO MISDEMEANOR CHARGES OF SIMPLE ASSAULT AND WRECKLESS ENDANGERMENT. SHAY WAS ARRAINED WITH BAIL BEING SET AT ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. SHAY WILL BE IN COURT ON WEDNESDAY FOR A PRELIMINARY HEARING. 

TOUCH-A-TRUCK EXPO

THE TENTH ANNUAL CENTRE REGION PARKS AND RECREATION TOUCH A TRUCK EXPO TOOK PLACE ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THE THREE HOUR EVENT WAS HELD ON THE GROUNDS OF STATE COLLEGE AREA HIGH SCHOOL WHERE ONLOOKERS COULD GET AN UP CLOSE VIEW OF DUMP TRUCKS, FIRE TRUCKS AND MORE. ADMISSION WAS FREE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. 

TOFTREES GOLF CLUB FESTIVAL

THE TOFTREES GOLF CLUB HELD THE FOURTH ANNUAL TOFTREES GOLF CLUB FAMILY FESTIVAL ON SUNDAY AS DOZENS OF FAMILIES PARTICIPATED IN THE EVENT. ACTIVITIES INCLUDED CHIPPING AND PUTTING CONTESTS WITH PRIZES GIVEN OUT. FAMILIES COULD ALSO PARTAKE IN A 30-MINUTE GOLFING LESSON. EVENT ORGANIZERS ARE ALREADY MAKING PLANS FOR NEXT YEAR’S FESTIVAL.
