Former Penn State Safety Injured in Shooting
A former Penn State football player turned state trooper is recovering from injuries sustained during an 18-hour standoff with an armed robbery suspect Friday in Latrobe. Trooper Brian King was shot in his protective face shield while attempting to end the standoff. The bullet shattered the shield and King underwent eye surgery at a Pittsburgh-area hospital. King was a safety for Penn State from 1992-1995. He was released from the hospital on Saturday.
Same-Sex Marriage "not close" in PA
Experts say Pennsylvania is still a long way from legalizing same-sex marriage. According to the Harrisburg Patriot-News, panelists at a marriage equality forum in Harrisburg last night agree politics are the greatest challenge to laws promoting equality. The panel included two Pennsylvania lawmakers and leaders from various advocacy and political groups. Roughly 100 people attended the two-hour debate at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore. Topics ranged from the affects of legislation and religion on gay marriage and potential financial consequences.
