PENN STATE AG SCIENCES
Richard Roush will serve as Dean of Penn State’s College Agricultural Sciences beginning on October 11th. He comes to Happy Valley after serving as the dean of the Melbourne School of Land and Environment at the University of Melbourne since 2006. According to his biography, his career spans research, teaching, regulatory and administrative appointments in both the US and Australia.
PINK ZONE FUNDRAISER TOTALS
The 2014 Pink Zone at Penn State raised $310,000 for six breast cancer charities. The record-setting total pushed the Penn State Lady Lions Pink Zone all-time total over one million dollars. Funds benefit Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital and Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital. In 2014, the Lady Lions hosted a record 698 breast cancer survivors at the February Pink Zone game against Wisconsin.
SECOND MILE CAN TRANSFER FUNDS
The Second Mile can transfer nearly $900,000 in funds to Arrow Child & Family Ministries. According to Statecollege.com, a judge ordered yesterday for the Second Mile, founded by Jerry Sandusky, to transfer the money and 10 computers to the organization. The Second Mile selected Arrow Child & Family Ministries to take over several of its youth programs. The organization was originally granted $200,000 but requested additional funds in May.
CENTRAL PA FOURTH FEST PARADE
The annual Central PA 4th Fest Parade will be held on Independence Day at 2 pm. The parade kicks off near the State College Borough Municipal building. It travels north on South Allen Street to East College Avenue, then heads east to Shortlidge Road. The parade continues by winding through the Penn State campus to the PSU Law building. Traffic will be detoured around the route between 2 and 3:30 pm. Delays are possible.
PENN STATE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION GROWS
Membership in the Penn State Alumni Association continues to climb. According to Penn State, the association’s membership increased by 1% to 174,379 members by the close of the fiscal year. Life members account for 62% of total membership. It’s the 12th straight year with a membership increase for the Alumni Association.
