SGT ADAM HARTSWICK INTERCHANGE

Route 45 in Pine Grove Mills between Routes 26 and 322 is now officially known as the Sgt. Adam Hartswick Interchange. The legislation was signed into law yesterday in Harrisburg, honoring the injured U.S. Army combatant. The State College graduate lost both of his legs after stepping on an IED aiding a wounded soldier in Afghanistan

PENN STATE VS. PATERNO CAMPAIGN

Penn State is attempting to halt the release of pre-trial documents in the lawsuit against the NCAA and university. According to Statecollege.com, the Paterno family argued in court last week that all documents should be free for public distribution. The university fears the family will use the documents to launch a public relations campaign. Penn State is asking for a protection order preventing the use of the documents outside of litigation.

JOGGER CRITICAL CONDITION

An 18-year-old Penn State freshman struck by a pick-up truck last Thursday morning remains in critical condition. According to Statecollege.com, Eva O’Brian is attempting to recover at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She was injured Thursday morning at the intersection of North Atherton Street and West Park Avenue when she reportedly ran into the path of a puck-up truck. Police do not expect ot file charges against the driver.

PENNDOT CONSTRUCTION

PennDOT continues to report staff injuries and damage in work zones due to wild driving across the state. Through June 23rd, PennDOT reported 10 incidents of staff injury or equipment damage and 32 ‘near misses’ due to cars and trucks entering work zones or disobeying traffic control. On June 1st, a Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission worker was killed in a work zone crash. Since 1970, 84 PennDOT employees have died on the job.
