Bike Path Closure
The McKee Street bike path from Clinton Avenue in Ferguson Township to McKee Street in State College will be closed to bicycle traffic for one week when repair work begins August 11. According to a press release, the path will remain open to pedestrians except on the day repaving is in progress.
An early morning fire in Clearfield County yesterday ruined a home and a neighboring business. State police at DuBois said the fire started around 1:30 on Luthersburg-Rockton Highway in Brady Township and destroyed Giuseppe Giambanco's home and Joe and Sal’s Pizza. Though the cause of the fire remains under investigation, the damage is estimated at $150,000.
Emphasizing that “Penn State will always be a part of him,” longtime Blue Band director O. Richard Bundy will retire at the end of the academic year. Bundy confirmed the news to Penn State Public Address Announcer Dean DeVore and said that he will conduct the Blue Band through the 2014 season. Penn State has posted a job listing to begin a national search for his replacement.
Less than 24 hours after a drug raid let to 31 arrests in Huntingdon County, a nine month investigation led to another drug sweep yesterday in Cambria County. Officers from multiple agencies including the Attorney General’s Office arrested around 30 more individuals who were wanted for felony drug violations. Attorney General Kathleen Kane said the investigation was related to the distribution of heroin, crack and prescription medications and is just getting started.
A vote to legalize medical marijuana awaits the state Senate when it returns in September. Supporters of the bill say if it were passed, it would clear the way for CBD, which has been used to reduce seizures in children with epilepsy. The bill has already won the approval of the Senate Law and Justice Committee.
