PSU AG PROGRESS DAYS TRAFFIC

PENN STATE AG PROGRESS DAYS WILL BE HELD IN ROCK SPRINGS FROM TUESDAY AUGUST 12TH TO THURSDAY AUGUST 14TH. FERGUSON TOWNSHIP POLICE ANTICIPATE THAT RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON WEST COLLEGE AVENUE, PINE GROVE ROAD AND WEST WHITEHALL ROAD WILL BE HEAVILY CONGESTED. NIXON ROAD, BETWEEN WEST WHITEHALL ROAD AND PINE GROVE ROAD, WILL BE CLOSED FROM 3 PM TO 7 PM DURING THE EVENT.

A PERSON WAS SEXUALLY ASSAULTED ON THE PENN STATE CAMPUS EARLY SATURDAY MORNING BETWEEN 2:30 AM AND 3:30 AM. UNIVERSITY POLICE SAY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED INSIDE A SOUTH HALLS DORM ROOM. THEY ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE VICTIM MAY KNOW THE CULPRIT, AND URGE PEOPLE AROUND CAMPUS TO BE VIGILANT. 

CRIME DOWN IN STATE COLLEGE 

ACCORDING TO INFORMATION RELEASED BY THE STATE COLLEGE POLICE DEPARTMENT ON SATURDAY, CRIME IS DOWN IN THEIR JURISDICTION FROM JANUARY TO JUNE, COMPARED TO NUMBERS FROM LAST YEAR. VANDALISM IS DOWN BY 33 PERCENT WITH BURGLARIES, THEFTS AND ASSAULTS DOWN BY 19, 13 AND 12 PERCENT, RESPECTIVELY. STATE COLLEGE POLICE SERGEANT CHRIS HILL MENTIONED THAT WHILE CRIME IS DOWN IN STATE COLLEGE, GENERAL CRIME IS ALSO DOWN NATIONWIDE. 

I-80 SPEED LIMIT INCREASE

THE SPEED LIMIT ON I-80 WILL INCREASE FROM 65 MPH TO 70 MPH BEGINNING TODAY. THIS NEW 70 MPH ZONE IS AN 88 MILE STRETCH FROM EXIT 101 IN DUBOIS TO MILE MARKER 189 IN CLINTON COUNTY. THE FIRST 70 MPH ZONES ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE WENT INTO AFFECT ON JULY 22. MORE AND MORE STRETCHES OF THE TURNPIKE ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 70 MPH IN THE COMING MONTHS ACCORDING TO PENNDOT OFFICIALS.

PennDOT Centre County Maintenance announces the following work schedule for the week of August 11 through August 15, 2014, weather permitting.

Motorists should travel with extra caution in these and all work areas.  Motorists should be aware that due to the nature of highway maintenance and emergency work, crews could be working on any highway at any time of the day or night.

BRIDGE REPAIR – On SR1005 Forest Avenue in Marion Township (Monday-Friday).

GUIDE RAIL REPAIR – On SR26 Pine Grove Road in Ferguson Township (Monday-Friday).

TREE TRIMMING – On SR445 Madisonburg Mountain in various locations and townships (Monday-Friday).

MOWING – On I80 in various locations and townships (Monday-Tuesday). On I-99 in various locations and townships (Wednesday-Friday).

DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT – On SR879 Pine Glen Road in Burnside and Snow Shoe Townships (Monday-Friday). On SR504 Rattlesnake Pike/Eagle Valley Road in Union and Boggs Townships (Monday-Thursday). On SR53 in Moshannon in Snow Shoe Township (Friday).

SHOULDER IMPROVEMENT – On SR144 Snow Shoe Mountain Road in Boggs and Snow Shoe Townships (Monday-Friday).

RABID DEER IN CENTRE COUNTY

A WHITE-TAILED DEER FOUND IN EMPIRE COURT TRAILER PARK IN CENTRE HALL HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR RABIES. THE DEER HAD BEEN WANDERING AROUND THE AREA FOR ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE THE GAME COMMISSION ARRIVED ON WEDNESDAY TO PUT THE ANIMAL DOWN. THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IS URGING ANYONE WHO MAY HAVE BEEN BITTEN OR EXPOSED TO THE DEER TO CALL THE CENTRE COUNTY STATE HEALTH CENTER AT 814-865-0932.
