STATE COLLEGE LANE RESTRICTIONS 

Traffic on South Allen Street between Prospect Avenue and Hamilton Avenue in State College will be reduced to a single lane again today until 5:00 pm. Public works crews are continuing street maintenance in the area. Delays are possible during construction.

RADIO SHACK ARMED ROBBERY 

Patton Township Police are investigating an armed robbery that allegedly took place yesterday at the Radio Shack near Wal-Mart on North Atherton Street in State College. According to Statecollege.com, police say a man entered the store with a handgun and demanded money. Police say the suspect is a black man in his early 20s, roughly 6 feet tall with short dreadlocks. The incident occurred around noon. Anyone with information should contact police at 814-234-0271.

PENN STATE RECEIVES PARTY SCHOOL RANK 

The Princeton Review ranks Penn State as the nation’s number 7 party school for 2014. According to Statecollege.com, Penn State ranked as the top ‘Beer School’ and 14th for ‘Greek Life’ and 19th in the “Liquor School’ category. Syracuse topped this year’s party school list with Iowa, Cal, West Virginia and Illinois rounding out the top five. Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania finished 6th.

CATA DEVELOPMENT APPROVED 

CATA can move forward with plans to build a new main office and maintenance facility. According to the Centre Daily Times, the Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a land development plan for the new facilities on Monday night. The project is expected to begin by early October. CATA is not moving from its home on Research Drive and Whitehall Road and the project includes three phases so operations are not disrupted.

MAN CHARGED IN PIPE BOMB INCIDENT

Pine Grove Mills residents are safely back in their homes after a bomb scare yesterday afternoon. According to the Centre Daily Times, police say a 53-year-old Harrisburg man created a bomb to kill his wife’s lover in a suspected affair. The man was visiting a friend on Wyandotte Lane in Pine Grove Mills. The friend alerted police, who defused the 1 foot long bomb in the man’s SUV around 7:15 pm. Neighbors were evacuated while bomb squads defused the device.
