 Mike McQueary’s lawsuit against Penn State will move forward. In a ruling yesterday, Judge Thomas Gavin denied Penn State’s motion to stay McQueary’s 4 million dollar whistleblower and defamation lawsuit against the university.  

 He is currently receiving severance pay until January 2014, but Judge Gavin cited that the former assistant coach could find himself without funds to live on if the case would be delayed. 

 McQueary sued Penn Statein October citing damage to his reputation and a loss of wages and other monetary damages. The university had asked for a stay or delay in the suit, saying the pending criminal cases against former president Graham Spanier and former administrators Tim Curley and Gary Schultz should be resolved first and engaging in legal proceedings with McQueary would be a burden.  

Crash on I-99

 A single car accident on an Interstate 99 that injured 2 people is under investigation.

 According to the Centre Daily Times, Ann Connell and her passenger Allison Connell both sustained injuries in the crash when their SUV drove of an I-99 overpass in Worth Township, then slid several hundred feet before landing.

 Ann Connell told police that her 2010 Ford Escape lost both brakes and steering while traveling 65mph in the passing lane of the interstate. Police said the vehicle went through the grass median and both southbound lanes before going south along an embankment for several hundred feet. The SUV then hit a small hill causing it to go airborne before overturning and continuing down a steep embankment.

 Police said both women were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.   

Commencement

 Fall Commencement will take place at Penn State this weekend. The Schreyer Honors College Medals Ceremony will take place at 5 o’clock today at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

 Baccalaureate and Associate Degree Ceremonies will take place at the Bryce Jordan Center tomorrow at 9am and 12:30pm. Graduate School Commencement is at 4pm in the Eisenhower Auditorium.  

Fine

 Penn State set aside the first $12 million installment of the $60 million fine imposed by the NCAA yesterday. The money was set into a money market account giving the NCAA’s child abuse task time to decide what to do with it.

 According to the university, the first payment was made by the Athletics Department through an internal loan from the University’s reserves and carries an interest rate of 4 percent for 30 years.

 The actual transfer of funds from the University to the endowment is expected to occur in the first half of 2013.   

Dent

 A Pennsylvania Representative is not happy with NCAA president Mark Emmert’s response to a request from the state’s U.S. house delegation to keep all 60 million dollars of the Penn State fine in the commonwealth.

 According to the AP, Representative Charlie Dent’s office released a copy of Emmert’s reply to the delegation which notes that a task force has been charged to allocate at least 25 percent of the fine money to programs in Pennsylvania.

 Dent calls Emmert’s reply “unacceptable and unsatisfactory.”

Shots Fired at Drilling Site

 Police are looking for a person who fired shots at a security guard shack on Wednesday night near a well drilling site in Snow Shoe Township.

 Police said a security guard reported a dark colored pick up truck pulled close to the shack off Pancake Road at about 10:30 and fired four shots at the guard, then fled.

 No injuries were reported.
