A couch fire that caused significant damage to an apartment on Waupelani Drive remains under investigation.State College Police Lt. Mark Argiro told the Centre Daily Times that a couch caught fire on the first floor of the Imperial Apartments building and flames and smoke rose up the walls.
Despite the “heavy smoke” Argiro expected the damage to the rest of the building to be minimal.No injuries were reported in the fire which was declared “under control” at about 2:30.
PennDOT is warning drivers to expect delays and restrictions on University Drive beginning today. The Southbound Lane for roughly one block near the Pegulla Ice Arena will be closed to allow crews to install curbs and sidewalks as part of the arena project.Lane restrictions on the southbound side are expected to last until work concludes at the end of June. The northbound lanes of University Drive will not be affected.
The State College Borough Council will meet tonight at 7:30 in the State College Municipal Building. At tonight’s meeting, there will be a public hearing on the proposed Capital Improvement plan for 2014-2018. The Plan recommends a little over 58 point 2 million dollars in capitol projects over the five year program, with just over 13 point 6 million suggested for 2014.According to the proposal, it is recommended that Council adopt the Plan on June 20.
Trash to Treasure
Thousands of bargain hunters began lining up as early as Friday night for Saturday’s annual Trash to Treasure sale at Beaver Stadium. More than 70,000 items were donated by Penn State Students who moved out of their campus dorms and headed home for the summer.All proceeds from the sale will go to the Centre County United Way.
