 THE AMERICAN RED CROSS IS DEPLOYING 21 VOLUNTEERS FROM CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA TO ASSIST IN NEW JERSEY AND NEW YORK IN THE WAKE OF SUPERSTORM SANDY AND THE NOR’EASTER.WORKERS WILL PROVIDE FOOD, WATER, RELIEF SUPPLIES AND COMFORT TO RESIDENTS.THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS IN THE TRI STATE AREA REMAIN WITHOUT POWER. 

DICKINSON

 CUMBERLAND COUNTY COMMISIONERS JOINED THE LIST OF OFFICIALS YESTERDAY WHO ARE OPPOSED TO A PLAN TO TRANSFER ALL FIRST YEAR CLASSES IN CARLISLE TO STATE COLLEGE.

ACCORDING TO THE CARLISLE SENTINEL, COMMISSIONERS APPROVED A MOTION YESTERDAY TO SEND TWO LETTERS TO CUMBERLAND COUNTY REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY BOARD CHAIRMAN LOUIS MARTIN AND DICKINSON SCHOOL OF LAW DEAN PHILIP MCCONNAUGHAY VOICING DISAPPROVAL OVER THE RELOCATION OF FIRST YEAR LAW SCHOOL STUDENTS TO THE UNIVERSITY PARK CAMPUS WITH THE OPTION TO FINISH THE REMAINDER OF THE THREE YEAR PROGRAM AT THE CARLISLE CAMPUS.

THE PAPER REPORTS THE REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY SECURED A 25 MILLION DOLLAR LOAN FOR PENN STATE THROUGH ITS REDEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE CAPITAL PROGRAM IN 2008 UPON AN AGREEMENT THAT THE JURIS DOCTOR LAW CURRICULUM WOULD STAY IN CARLISLE.   

VOTER TURNOUT

THOUGH THE POLLS WERE STRONG ON ELECTION DAY, VOTER TURNOUT WASN’T QUITE AS HIGH AS IT WAS IN 2008.

ROUGHLY FIVE AND A HALF MILLION PENNSYLVANIAN’S CAST BALLOTS ON TUESDAY WHICH IS A LITTLE LESS THAN 65% OF THE STATE’S REGISTERED VOTERS.

THE NUMBERS WERE SLIGHTLY BELOW THE NEAR 68% OF REGISTERED VOTERS WHO SHOWED UP TO THE POLLS IN 2008.

 STATE POLICE ARE SEARCHING FOR A PHILIPSBURG GIRL WAS RAN AWAY FROM HER HOME.13 YEAR OLD SYDNEY BOWMAN WAS LAST SEEN ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON.POLICE SAY THEY RECEIVED A FEW TIPS ON HER WHEREABOUTS AND TRACED A TEXT MESSAGE FROM BOWMAN’S PHONE, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND HER.BOWMAN’S FAMILY HAS STARTED A FACEBOOK PAGE FOR ANYONE WHO HAS INFORMATION OR YOU CAN CONTACT CLEARFIELDSTATE POLICE AT 857-3800 

EXECUTION POSTPONED

 YORK COUNTY MAN HUBERT MICHAEL JR. WAS SCHEDULED TO BE PUT TO DEATH BY LETHAL INJECTION AT ROCKVIEW STATE PRISON YESTERDAY, BUT WAS GIVEN A LAST MINUTE STAY THAT IS BEING FOUGHT BY THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE.

 THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS RELEASED A STATEMENT LAST NIGHT SAYING THE MATTER IS NOW BACK IN THE HANDS OF THE JUDICIARY BASED ON THE DEFENSE ATTORNEY’S APPEAL IN FEDERAL COURT.

 THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS SAYS IF AND WHEN THE STAY IS LIFTED BY THE COURT, THE EXECUTION WILL BE SCHEDULED DIRECTLY.MICHAEL WAS CONVICTED IN 1993 FOR THE MURDER OF 16 YEAR OLD TRISTA ENG.
