Strengths

·         Big NFL caliber frame

·         Quick off the snap, very good first step

·         Strong bull rush, wins with leverage and power

·         Jolts defender back on contact

·         Very active hands, good hand fighter

·         Plays with his eyes, good at reading play and diagnosing

·         Very effective swim move, hard to block one on one

·         Good initial pad level, fires off low

·         Collapses the pocket

 

 

Weaknesses

·         Not strong at the point of attack, give up ground

·         Inconsistent player who has conditioning and motivation issues

·         Gets blown off the ball when he shouldn’t

·         Poor top speed

 

Analysis:

DaQuan Jones was a good player at Penn State. Given his size and explosiveness, he should have been better. He’s not great against the run. He takes some plays off and he will need to be monitored closely. Given his ceiling, he will be drafted early. He is a 1 gap penetrator who can cause problems for an offense by disrupting the play in the backfield. He’s got a great first step and when he’s going forward, he keeps his pad level low and wins the leverage battle. If the defender gets his hands into his chest, he’s easy to push off the spot. Can play five technique in a 3-4 or 3 technique in a 4-3.
