Strengths

·         Elite size and speed can run with anyone

·         Downhill player who will fly to the ball

·         Shows good effort in filling the lane

·         Stiff hips, can’t cover receiver out of their break

·         Track athlete

·         Still learning football, let alone his position

·         Not a thumper

·         Short arms despite height

·         Needs overall refinement

 

Analysis:

Dezmen Southward will cause a lot of arguments in draft rooms. At Wisconsin he played a hybrid safety/corner position and has the elite speed to stay with anyone deep. But he’s got short arms, poor hip flexibility and he’s still learning the position. He’s a straight line athlete who might struggle to see the field but the upside is undeniable. Excused from combine due to injury. Ran at pro-day.
