Strengths

·         Good frame, stout well, built and muscled defensive end

·         Long arms to lock out blocker

·         Good explosion off the line

·         Relentless motor player

·         Delivers violence with hand punch, plays with a nasty streak

·         Strong player, wins with leverage

·         Adept bull rusher who walks blockers back into QB’s lap

·         Disruptive force when left single blocked

Weaknesses

·         Doesn’t have pass rushing moves, tries to win solely on force

·         Needs to improve field awareness

·         Doesn’t keep his hands active when pass rushing

·         Gets swallowed up by big blockers, needs to shed block and make play

·         Plays too upright

·         Stiff hips, hasn’t shown the ability to bend the corner

Analysis:

Some team will fall in love with Crichton’s nasty playing style and gritty power moves. Overall though, he’s a project at the next level. His body seems NFL ready with a good base, power to defend the run and a desire to get to the quarterback. However he doesn’t display enough pass rushing prowess to place him in the lineup day one. He lacks any sort of speed rushing moves. He simply tries to dominate the man across from him. He’s not Justin Smith so he won’t be able to simply run people over. Has the ceiling desired for a top 40 pick but will require work.
