Strengths

·         Athletic quarterback who moves well

·         Decent arm strength

·         Accurate on deep ball, sets feet and follows through on his throw

·         Throws well on the run  

 

Weaknesses

·         Undersized for position and looks overweight

·         Very poor mechanics   

·         More of an athlete playing quarterback than an athletic quarterback

·         Never looks comfortable in the pocket

·         Stares down his receivers

·         Not accurate due to poor mechanics

·         Doesn’t make good decisions under pressure

·         Gets into no man’s land with footwork

·         Ran an option offense at Clemson, never took snaps under center

·         Doesn’t throw receivers open or look of safeties  

·         Did not time fast at NFL combine

Analysis:


The bottom line is that Tajh Boyd is not an NFL starting quality quarterback. He has potential as a wildcat quarterback, or as a slash style player but his game does not translate to the NFL. He has a lot of bad habits that limit his value. He has poor footwork, his mechanics are sloppy and he looks to run after his first read. Also, his timed speed is poor given his style of play. Boyd could latch on to a team that runs a spread offense and be a career backup.
